Cold Steel® has never shied away from breaking convention. They always put function first. Their knives are made to work, and when it comes to knives, bigger is always better. The Espada® series is the result of a collaboration between knifemaker Andrew Demko and Cold Steel® President Lynn C. Thompson. This collection is the perfect fusion of Demko's ingenious engineering talent and Thompson's extensive knowledge of bladed weapons and tools. These huge, highly efficient folding knives are amazingly easy to carry. They are so skilfully designed to fit comfortably in your pocket, you'll soon forget you're even carrying such a large, imposing blade. Thanks to Demko's patented thumb disk, the Espada® knives can be opened at the pocket seam as soon as they are pulled out of the pocket, so they are ready for use in no time!
The beautiful blades are made of high-quality American CTS® XHP steel. This super powder steel from the USA was deliberately selected: the cutting edges can be ground extremely finely, but still stay sharp for a particularly long time.
To protect against this sharp blade, every Espada® is equipped with Cold Steel®'s patented Tri-Ad® locking mechanism. This locking mechanism has proven to be astonishingly shock-resistant and solid. It is virtually impossible for the blade to close in your hand. In Cold Steel®'s famous hardness and load tests, the XL Espada® was able to withstand not only a free-hanging weight of 272 kg (600 lbs.) but also a hanging engine block with no problem!
Cold Steel® offers the Medium Espada® as a slightly slimmer, tactical darker version with a durable, DLC-coated blade and G-10 handle scales.

Carpenter American CTS® XHP steel is a high-alloy powder steel with high carbon and chromium content. It has very impressive edge retention. With its extremely fine-grained, uniform structure, it surpasses equivalent mild steels by far. This high-performance steel is used for many products, from top-quality kitchen knives to surgical instruments. Its polished surface has a beautiful satin finish and its edges can be ground extremely sharp, making this steel a first-class blade material for everyday knives.
