Escrima-Fußarbeit: 7 Schritte für schnellere, sauberere Schläge

Escrima Footwork: 7 Steps for Faster, Cleaner Strikes

1) Stance & Alignment: Stable, yet Mobile

Basic Stance: Feet shoulder-width apart, dominant foot slightly offset to the rear; knees soft; weight distribution approx. 60/40 (front/back). Front foot open 10–15°, rear foot 20–30°; hips/shoulders slightly diagonal to the target line.

Drill (2 min): 30 s hold → 30 s gentle "bounce" → repeat. Focus: quiet landing, relaxed shoulders.

Mistake: Stance too wide → slow changes of direction. Fix: Slightly narrower, flexible knees, lively center of gravity.

2) Weight Shift: Load → Drive → Land

Clean strikes start from the ground: Load (minimal pre-load) → Drive (pressure through the balls of the feet) → Land (soft landing, upright upper body).

Drill (3 min): Metronome 70 BPM. Beat 1 = Load, Beat 2 = Drive + Strike (e.g., Angle 1), Beat 3 = Land + Recover. 10 reps per side.

Mistake: Upper body tilts forward. Fix: Look horizontally, chest "suspended," strike from ground + hips.

3) Triangle Footwork: Male & Female Triangle

Male Triangle (forward-V) cuts diagonally forward; Female Triangle (backward-V) evades and counters. Goal: create angles instead of clashing head-on.

Drill (4 min): 60 s Male Triangle (feet only) → 60 s with Angle 1/2 → 60 s Female Triangle + Counter → 60 s free combination. Cue: nose–knee–toe stay in one line.

4) Pivot & Line Correction (45°/90°)

Small pivots on the balls of the feet correct striking lines without restarting. 45° after diagonal hits; 90° for clear flank changes.

Drill (3 min): Angle 1 → 45° Pivot → Angle 2 → 45° back. Start slow, increase tempo.

Mistake: Pivot from the heel. Fix: Weight on the balls of the feet, heel relieved, knee points with it.

5) Split-Step & Burst: The Quick Starter

A microscopic two-footed hop loads elastic energy. Burst: first step short & fast, the second creates distance.

Drill (3 min, reactive): On signal: Split-Step → Burst into the strike → immediate Exit-Step back to safety range.

Mistake: Large first step (slow on the ground). Fix: First phase short & quiet, "engage" instead of "jump."

6) Broken Rhythm & Half-Beats

Change your rhythm: half-beats, short stops, delays. Example: 1–(½)–2 or 3-3-2 pattern.

Drill (4 min): Metronome 80 BPM. 4 beats on-beat → 4 beats half-beat (second strike on the "+") → 4 beats broken rhythm. Feet lead, hands follow.

7) Managing Distance: Largo, Medio, Corto

  • Largo: you hit with the tip, stay outside.
  • Medio: both can hit – angles & timing decide.
  • Corto: close range, checks/traps/butt-end.

Rule: Win the entry with your feet, secure the exit with your feet.

Drill (3 min): Mark 3 distances. From the center: Entry → Strike → Exit via Female-Triangle. Vary the sequence.
