Cold Steel® has never shied away from breaking with convention. For the Cold Steel® team, functionality always takes top priority. The Cold Steel® Espada® is inspired by classic Spanish Navaja knives, but is extremely modern in terms of design and materials. These mega-pocket knives immediately caused a sensation!
The Espada® series is the result of a collaboration between knifemaker Andrew Demko and Cold Steel® President Lynn C. Thompson. This collection is the perfect fusion of Demko's ingenious technical talent and Thompson's extensive knowledge of bladed weapons and tools. Despite their stately size, these huge, highly efficient folding knives remain surprisingly easy to carry. They have been so cleverly designed that they fit comfortably in your pocket, and you'll soon forget that you're even carrying such a large, imposing blade. Thanks to Demko's patented thumb plate, the Espada® can be opened at the pocket seam directly upon drawing it from your pocket, making it ready for action in no time!
The blade steel of the Large Espada® was deliberately chosen: The edge can be sharpened extremely finely, yet remains sharp for a particularly long time. The knife also features masterfully polished G-10 handle scales. The bolster and frame, made of 7075 aluminum, have also been highly polished.
To protect against the sharp blade, every Espada® is equipped with Cold Steel®'s patented Tri-Ad® locking mechanism. This lock has proven to be astonishingly shock-resistant and solid. It is virtually impossible for the blade to close in your hand. In Cold Steel®'s famous hardness and stress tests, the XL Espada® was able to easily withstand not only a free-hanging weight of 272 kg (600 lbs.) but also a hanging engine block!
2018 Model - The Espada® Large with S35VN steel blade replaces the discontinued previous model made of CTS® XHP (item no. CST-62NCL).
CPM S35VN Steel
This is an extraordinary American super steel. CPM S35VN is not only extremely tough and durable, but it can also be sharpened to a razor's edge and holds that edge for a long time. With its uniform microstructure, this very fine-grained powdered steel offers consistent, good properties: durable, reliable, highly corrosion-resistant, tough and hard even with thinly ground edges. A good, versatile steel for top-quality knives and tools.
