As a mythical creature, the dragon has captured the imagination of humans for centuries. In Asian folklore, it is considered a benevolent being, an ally of man in a hostile world, or a symbol of imperial power, especially in China, where dragon motifs adorn palace walls and breastplates. In Western cultures, however, it was feared as a wild, hostile creature, a fire-breathing beast that left only a trail of destruction in its wake and razed entire villages to the ground. If a brave knight actually managed to slay an angry dragon, he could return home confident that he had already won the hand of the enchantingly beautiful maiden he had rescued from the clutches of the monster.

Either way, despite its reputation, the dragon is a powerful creature with extraordinary, consistently awe-inspiring physical attributes. It was precisely these attributes that inspired Cold Steel to use the dragon as the motif for this walking stick. The model was an antique, intricately carved dragon cane from the private collection of Lynn C. Thompson, the president of Cold Steel. This cane was meticulously recreated using high-quality, hand-engraved injection molds. The wealth of details is astonishing, such as the scale pattern that runs along the entire length of the serpentine shaft or the fearsome, snarling snout.
