The KWON® Rattan Bo Staff is a classic long staff for technique, form, and weapon training in various martial arts. Rattan possesses a characteristic flexibility compared to many solid hardwoods. This allows the Bo to be handled dynamically and makes it suitable for rotational, guiding, blocking, and striking movements in controlled martial arts training. At the same time, Rattan is a natural material: structure, diameter, surface, color, and straightness can visibly vary from staff to staff.

Why Rattan for a Bo Staff?

The material structure of Rattan differs significantly from classic solid hardwoods. The natural material features long fibers and a certain degree of elasticity. As a result, a Rattan Bo may behave differently under load than, for example, a Bo made of oak or beech.

This makes it especially interesting for martial artists looking for a flexible and comparatively easy-to-handle long staff for technique sequences, coordination exercises, and dynamic movement patterns.

Rattan is a Natural Product – Each Bo is Unique

Please note that Rattan is a grown natural material. Two staffs are therefore never completely identical.

Material-typical characteristics that may occur include:

• varying diameters along the staff,
• slight tapering,
• natural curvatures or minor deformations,
• differences in color and structure,
• growth marks and natural surface textures,
• small indentations, pores, or material-typical irregularities,
• slight superficial natural or drying marks.

Such natural deviations are typical of the nature of Rattan and generally do not constitute a material defect, provided that the function, stability, and safe intended use of the product are not impaired.

In particular, it cannot be guaranteed that a natural product will be perfectly straight, have an exactly identical diameter over its entire length, or feature perfectly uniform color and surface structure.

Note on Wear and Strike Contact

Bo staffs and other training sticks are exposed to mechanical stress during contact training. Depending on training intensity and contact surface, repeated striking can lead to dents, surface changes, abrasion, and a gradual fraying of the Rattan.

Such changes caused by use may represent material- and training-related wear and are to be distinguished from a material defect existing at the time of delivery. Statutory warranty rights remain unaffected.

• This item is training equipment for martial arts and not a toy.
• Training should be performed in a controlled manner appropriate to your skill level.
• During partner or contact training, maintain sufficient safety distance and use appropriate protective gear.
• The Bo should be checked for safety-relevant damage before every use.
• In case of deep cracks, significant structural damage, sharp edges, or impaired stability, the staff must not be used further.
• Children and adolescents should only use this item under appropriate professional supervision.
