The scientific name of the tree, Millettia laurentii, indicates that it belongs to the Millettia genus. The wenge tree is characterized by its imposing size and its dark brown to black heartwood, which is known for its characteristic grain and distinctive stripes. This exotic wood is often used in furniture making, interior design and in the manufacture of musical instruments due to its hardness, density and aesthetics.
