Lynn C. Thompson's love for the Filipino martial arts (FMA) led him to develop the Luzon folding knives in collaboration with Mike Wallace. Although various balisongs from his private collection served as inspiration, the Luzons are legal folding knives that can be opened via a flipper. All models feature a blade made of 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, hardened to a Rockwell hardness of 57-58 HRC. It has a sharp, stable point and just enough belly to cut and slice equally well. The handle will make you long for the Philippines. Visually, it resembles a bamboo cane, and haptically, several grooves allow for a variety of comfortable grip techniques. It is made of glass-fiber reinforced nylon (GFN), is weather-resistant, and simply different from all handles Cold Steel® has designed to date.
The Luzon knives are beautiful, affordable, and easy to open - in short, an excellent choice. Additionally, the blade lock provides unparalleled safety, as the knives are equipped with a double-secured side spring lock that is incredibly shock and impact resistant. This protects your fingers at all times, even under the most adverse conditions.
The Luzon is available in two sizes. Both models are equipped with a lanyard hole and a reversible, ambidextrous pocket clip made of glass-fiber reinforced nylon.
8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel
8Cr13MoV has similar properties to AUS 8A and is a proven steel that is excellently suited for the production of utility knives. In Cold Steel's® own tests, this high-carbon stainless steel has proven to be tough and corrosion-resistant. Like AUS 8A, it exhibits good edge retention and is also easy to resharpen.
